Teacher Week: Make Ahead Meals

This is Deedee Wills from Mrs. Wills Kindergarten.  When our Blog Hoppin group talked about ideas for Teacher Week... I jumped (or hopped) at the idea of doing Make Ahead Meals.

Let me tell you... I! HATE! TO! COOK!   HATE! IT!
Sadly, Mr. Wills does not enjoy it either.
But I love to eat!  So when I get busy, I tend to grab what is easy.
Easy and Healthy don't always go hand in hand.

I started to examine what I disliked so much about cooking.

Honestly, it is the planning.

I am not a sit-down-on-Sunday-and-make-a-shopping-list-girl.
I am usually a I-am-at-the-grocery-store-what-do-I-need-girl. OR
What-can-I-make-tonight-girl.

Then I found this website.

Simple Meal Planning - Plan to Eat

Game! Changer!

Here is why...

First I can import the recipes I find on the internet into this website.  This is done by just clicking a tool on my toolbar... sort of like pinning to Pinterest.

My go-to sights are...

www.skinnytaste.com
www.organizeyourselfskinny.com
and
www.emilybites.com
Then I can plan my meals for the week by dragging your saved recipes into the planner.  Takes like 2.2 seconds... for real.  This is a screenshot from my computer but I usually do this on my phone... in the parking lot of the grocery store.   Sad but true.

This is the cool thing...  IT! MAKES! A! SHOPPING! LIST! FOR! YOU!  As you put an item in your shopping cart, you can check off the boxes.

This website does cost a little money, but I have save so much money because I am getting the right stuff.  I don't over or under buy.

So what is my FAVORITE make ahead meal?

Skinny Slow Cooker Pernil (Puerto Rican Pork)

Disclaimer:  I am not a food blogger.  I have no idea how to photograph food.

So the night before I get started.  I pull the recipe up.
There are just a few ingredients.
I put the pork and the juice marinade in the fridge for the night.
In the morning, I slide the crock into the pot and put it on low.
When I get home, the house smells delicious!
Then I cook some tortillas on the griddle.  It just takes a few minutes.
I like to get the uncooked flour tortillas from CostCo. I find them in the refrigerated section.

Add a salad and WAH-LA... Dinner is served!

We are busy!  Right?   Please link up your favorite make-ahead meals.  If you are a blogger, please be sure to add our graphic and link back to us.

If you are not a blogger... no problem-o.   You can add your favorite make ahead meals on our Facebook Page!
